Many individuals are on the HCS waiting list for 10-15 years.
When they finally get approved they are fast tracked to pick a provider within 30 days with little to no knowledge of what HCS offers, or what to look for in an HCS Provider.
The Local ID/DD Authorities typically don't explain every HCS service option and cannot encourage anyone to pick a particular HCS provider. You are left to search the HCS provider list without any help.
Many are instructed to pick an HCS provider from a very long list only to find that their calls can go unreturned for several days or weeks.
Many describe the process as making them feel stressed, abandoned and overwhelmed.
